biography
Portsmouth based Simon Kent releases his debut album, “Pillo” in summer 2008.
“the best unsigned music I have heard in a very long time”
(Phill Brown , producer/engineer – Beth Gibbons, Talk Talk, Dido)
"Pillo" is an emotionally charged album packed with lyrics that lay bare the fragility of an artist who is singing from the heart on a whole variety of different subjects. From man’s selfish destruction of the environment ("The Earth Is Mine"), the joy of fatherhood (‘Evie’), looking for what you already have ("Wake Me Up"), unrequited love ("Never Mine") and nervous breakdowns ("Spaced Out Refugee") the album pulls no punches with it’s honesty.
A classically trained vocalist and musician, Simon grew up in Portsmouth, spending his childhood touring the most prestigious venues of Europe as the main soloist in an award winning boys choir.
The album’s opening track and lead single, the stand-out "Spaced Out Refugee", is a song about the gradual process of a nervous breakdown. Sonically, the song is a genuine ambient pop-rock statement of intent for the naturally shy singer.
The single’s atmospheric video was filmed on Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower – a first for the famous landmark, which is also depicted on the single’s sleeve artwork.
Simon will be playing a series of showcases to support the release of "Spaced Out Refugee", while his debut album "Pillo", (both have been carbon neutrally manufactured) will be released in summer 2008.
